history

reel, formerly known under the simple name of foto vernissage, was started in 2010 by, Andi Schmidt a bicylceenthusiast. The goal was to create a platform for young sports photographers where they could present their artistic view on biking as a sport and lifestyle. But instead of just hanging and selling photographs, we wanted to have a deeper impact. Thus, we and the photographers agreed to donate all revenues from the picture sales to World Bicycle Relief.

The first exhibit was set during the time of the ISPO Munich 2011 – one of the most renowned sports trade shows worldwide, knowing that the city would be flooded with sports fans from everywhere. And boy, did we know. The success of the first exhibit was overwhelming and quickly the decision was made to turn this into an annual event.

After the second exhibit in 2012 had gone by smoothly and with even greater success, a few changes were due. A new name was found: reel – tribute to sports photography! Also we decided to broaden the event’s portfolio by accepting pictures that focused on sports aside from biking. We hope that these changes will attract more people and draw even larger crowds to the 2013 exhibit, which will take place on February 3rd at the Whitebox in Munich. Naturally, all revenues will again be donated to World Bicycle Relief.
